Can the Suzuki e Vitara really replace a Range Rover when it comes to serious off-road driving?
That was the bold question YouTuber Efficient Alex tried to answer.
It might sound like a stretch, especially given the price gap.
However, this compact electric SUV might have punched above its weight.

A Range Rover rival at a fraction of the price
At first glance, the e Vitara didn’t exactly scream hardcore off-roader.

It was small, relatively affordable (around $35,000), and fully electric, which already put it in a very different category from traditional rugged 4x4s.
But a closer look revealed some promising features.
The all-wheel-drive ‘AllGrip’ system, dual motors, and dedicated trail mode hinted at something far more capable than its city-friendly size suggested.
There was also an interesting twist to its origins.
While it wore a Suzuki badge, the car was built in India and shared its underpinnings with a Toyota-developed platform.
That unusual partnership helped keep costs down while still delivering modern tech, including two battery options and a surprisingly punchy driving experience.
On the road, the e Vitara impressed almost immediately.

Acceleration felt quick and responsive, with none of the sluggishness some might expect from a budget-focused EV.
It handled motorway driving with ease, offering a smooth ride, light steering, and a suite of driver aids like adaptive cruise control and lane assist.
There was a bit of wind noise, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Around town, it proved just as practical.

The cabin was spacious enough for everyday use, with decent boot capacity and useful features like wireless smartphone connectivity and a clear infotainment system.
While taller passengers found the rear seats a bit tight, the overall package felt well thought out for daily driving duties.

The real test came when the Suzuki e Vitara left the tarmac
When the YouTuber took it onto a muddy off-road course, expectations were cautiously low.
After all, this wasn’t a purpose-built rock crawler.
Yet almost immediately, it began to surprise.

Despite slippery terrain, deep ruts, and standing water, the system managed power delivery effectively, keeping the car moving forward with minimal drama.
The electric drivetrain played a big role.
Instant torque allowed for precise control at low speeds, while the all-wheel-drive system adjusted power between the front and rear wheels to maintain traction.

Even over uneven ground and steep sections, the car held its own.
By the end of the test, one thing was clear.
While the Suzuki e Vitara probably wouldn’t fully replace a high-end off-roader like a Range Rover, it came far closer than expected.
And for the price and performance, it made a strong case as a budget-friendly all-rounder that could handle more than the typical grocery run.
