Described as ‘the most significant simulation we’ve carried out to date’ by Western Sydney Airport CEO Simon Hickey, the Australian airport has seen its first Boeing 737 tires skid on the runway, marking a milestone moment.

The new airport is set to open in 2026 after 12 years of construction, in a bid to bolster travel to the Emerald City as Kingsford Smith reached its limits.

But with over a decade of tarmacing, scaffolding, and intense route-planning, the first of many, many Boeing 737 planes has landed on the runway.

Watch above as a local news outlet showcased the moment that the crowd went wild.
