This Florida YouTuber took his 650hp Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to CarMax to get it appraised, and the result was a little surprising.
The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a popular car, but that’s a double-edged sword.
As in, there are plenty of buyers, but there are also plenty of sellers, which means demand – no matter how strong it is – can still be outpaced by supply.
And, on this occasion, there was a specific and strange reason why the one he received was not what he was expecting.
The CarMax appraisal came as a shock
Florida-based YouTuber Flying Wheels had already tried selling his 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 at auction, but that didn’t work out.
After identifying the car’s aftermarket wheels as the primary reason for the lack of interest, he sourced a set of original C7 Z06 wheels for just $800, swapped them out, and tried selling the car again.
He took it to CarMax, which will theoretically buy any car, regardless of age and condition.
They did make him an offer, but it wasn’t what he was expecting.

In the end, he received an offer for $32,000, which was roughly half of the car’s market value of around $60,000.
The offer was so low, in the YouTuber’s view, he didn’t even want to share it.
“I am embarrassed to tell you what they offered me. They offered me $32,000. Literally 50 percent of the value of this car. I can’t sell it for 32k. That’s ridiculous,” he said in the video.
And the reason was equally surprising.
The reason why CarMax ‘undervalued’ this Chevrolet Corvette

While the Corvette Z06 had a clean title with no history of accidents, the Carfax report included a worrying note.
Apparently, ‘vandalism’ had been reported.
So, despite the lack of structural or title damage, CarMax probably saw this report as a huge red flag and offered just 50 percent of the market value.
To be fair, the car’s popularity, ironically, didn’t help.
This means there are so many Corvette Z06s available that if one deal doesn’t work out, the next will always be right around the corner.
The reason why these offers can sometimes seem low

Companies like CarMax in Florida or WeBuyAnyCar in the UK assess the value of a car in a way that’s very clinical.
With a private buyer, you may get the ‘I’ve always wanted to own a Corvette Z06’ effect.
But with CarMax, you don’t.
They’re running a business, which means nothing gets past them.
If there’s a scratch, they’ll notice.
If there’s a problem with the paperwork, they’ll find out.
And because their business model is based on the concept of buying any and every car, they have to make sure their bottom line is protected across the board.
For every desirable vehicle, which the Corvette Z06 certainly is, there may be two or three cars that are hard to sell, which is why it sometimes feels like the offer is not what it could be.
