Ford’s 815hp Mustang just humiliated its own record at the Nürburgring

The Ford Mustang GTD just beat its own record around the Nürburgring.

The most powerful Mustang ever made beat the record by five seconds, which as far as lap times go is actually a huge difference.

This means the Ford Mustang GTD is still the fastest American production car to lap the ‘Ring.

And now it’s made it a bit more difficult for everyone else to try and beat the record.

The Mustang beat its own record

A Ford Mustang GTD driven by Ford factory driver Dirk Müller lapped the ‘Ring in 6:52.072, which is 5.5 seconds faster than the previous record, which was set back in December.

The Mustang is in factory spec, even though Ford did make a few changes.

They enhanced the chassis rigidity and tuned the suspension, and they also recalibrated the powertrain.

Speaking of which, under the hood of this GTD – or any other GTD for that matter – you’ll find a 5.2-liter V8 producing 815 horsepower.

There’s a tiny elephant in the room, though.

The GTD is fast, but it’s also expensive, coming in at over $300,000.

Why automakers are so obsessed with the Nürburgring

The Nürburgring, sometimes simply called the ‘Ring’, is the name of a motorsport complex in Nürburg, Germany.
