The new Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 is more powerful than the Ford Mustang GTD, but costs half as much.

Built by RTR, a tuning company that works almost exclusively with Ford, the Spec 5 comes in with nearly 900 horsepower.

This muscle car is less expensive than the GTD, but still not what you’d call cheap.

And there’s a very good reason why it’s probably just as difficult to buy.

The most powerful Mustang ever built

With the Mustang GTD, Ford did something you can expect from some hypercar makers.

For starters, the carmaker gave it a lot of horsepower, which is expected, but then also went the extra mile with amazing attention to detail.

At the back, right behind the cockpit, you’ve got a display case where you can admire the rear axle suspension.

More importantly, the GTD was unveiled as the best most powerful Mustang ever made, with a power output of 815 horsepower.

But that title no longer belongs to the GTD because the RTR Spec 5 makes 870+ horsepower.

Interestingly, the RTR is still half as expensive as the GTD.

The reason why this car won’t be easy to get

Just like the Ford Mustang GTD and the Ford GT, the Ford Mustang RTR won’t be easy to get.

Having the money to afford it won’t be enough.

This is because only 50 units will be made, and you have to be approved by Ford before you can buy one.

When it comes to limited-edition cars like the RTR (or the GTD), automakers reserve the right to cherrypick who gets to buy them.

These cars generally end up in the hands of collectors who already own more than one limited-edition and rare Fords.

Jay Leno will probably buy one, but John Cena probably won’t.

The wrestler-turned-actor’s relationship with Ford has been a bit turbulent after he decided to break one of the carmaker’s golden rules.
