This is the new Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5, one of the most extreme Mustangs ever built.

It’s also one of the most powerful, with over 870hp at its disposal.

It’s less expensive than the GTD, though.

But probably equally hard to get.

What we can expect from the Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5

Ford is definitely on a roll with these extreme, track-friendly Mustangs.

After the Ford Mustang GTD, the most powerful and expensive new Mustang ever built, the American automaker has unveiled the RTR Spec 5, which looks even more extreme and track-ready.

Based on the seventh-generation Mustang GT, it features a performance package that gives its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 over 870hp.

And the best about it is it’s also available with a manual gearbox if you don’t want the automatic.

Visually, there’s a new RTR by BORLA exhaust system, carbon fiber front and side splitters, and new rear fenders, which also integrated tire cooling vents.

The wheel arches are also massive, as is the air scoop on the hood.

For the cabin, the first thing that stands out is the rear bench, mainly because it reminds us of the iconic Mustangs from the 1960s.

There are two key differences when you compare it to the GTD

The Ford Mustang GTD is a standalone model, while the RTR is technically a performance upgrade tuned by RTR (Ready To Run), a tuning firm that almost exclusively deals with Ford, and it’s based on the Mustang GT401A.

As such, it costs a little less than the GTD.

While the GTD is priced at well over $300,000 – $318,760, to be exact – the RTR ‘only’ costs $159,999.

However, just like the GTD – and the Ford GT – it won’t be easy to get.

Only 50 units will be made, and you have to be approved by Ford before you can buy one.
