A little-known rival to Google Maps has just introduced a new feature that could make driving a far more enjoyable experience.

Although Google Maps and Apple Maps once dominated when it came to navigation apps, in recent years, there have been some interesting new options, including Waze and Mapbox.

In fact, several of these options have sparked debate about which is the best – even our very own Alex Hirschi, aka Supercar Blondie herself, has weighed in with her thoughts.

But there’s also a lesser-known app, and it’s just introduced a feature Google Maps users have been requesting for years.

This lesser-known navigation app just added a cool new feature

Whether you’re loyal to Apple, Google, Waze, or one of the other navigation apps out there, most of us tend to rely heavily on them to find the quickest and easiest route to our destination.

But that’s not always a priority when driving.

If you’re out driving somewhere new and you’ve got a bit of extra time on your hands, then you may want to take the scenic route to soak up the local landscape.

Of course, if you are new to an area, chances are you won’t know what the most scenic route is, which is where a navigation app would come in handy.

Despite users calling for a ‘scenic route’ function, Google Maps has so far resisted.

However, little-known navigation service rival Magic Earth has just included the feature on its latest update.

The most recent version has a new ‘Scenic’ travel mode, which will show users the ‘fastest route with the most scenic, curvy, and hilly roads between your waypoints’.

So rather than just get you where you need to be ASAP, it’ll also send you on a route with some nice things to look at along the way.

Other updates include a ‘glass-style interface’, which is a little similar to Apple’s recently launched Liquid Glass Display.

Could Magic Earth rival Waze and Google Maps?

Unlike some of the bigger names, there’s a good chance you’ve never even heard of Magic Earth, but it has some pretty neat features.

As well as its new interface and scenic route option, Magic Earth offers real-time crowd-sourced traffic insights, helping you to avoid getting stuck in a traffic jam.

It also comes with multiple transport modes, meaning you can use it whether you’re driving, walking, or catching a bus.

There’s an option to view immersive 3D maps, which can help you explore your surroundings without getting lost – and all the maps are available offline so you can use them when traveling.

The Essential version of Magic Earth is free to download, but for access to all the features – such as offline maps – you’ll need to upgrade to the Premium subscription-based offering.
