The iconic Dukes of Hazzard General Lee car flew through the air when it jumped over a public fountain in Kentucky.

Hundreds of spectators and more than 1,000 cars turned out for the 2025 Somernites Cruise in the Kentucky town of Somerset.

The star of the show was unquestionably the General Lee car, which did what it does best – jump over something really high.

It was like the iconic show had been bought to life right there on the street.

The Dukes of Hazzard General Lee car took flight in Kentucky

People of a certain age will remember the iconic show The Dukes of Hazzard.

The action comedy show ran for seven seasons between 1979 and 1985 over a span of 147 episodes.

It revolved around two cousins (Bo and Luke Duke) in rural Georgia who concocted various schemes to outwit local law enforcement.

But what people remember most about this show isn’t the leads – it’s the car.

Namely a 1969 Dodge Charger nicknamed the General Lee.

The car was notorious for several reasons, including having the doors welded shut – leaving the Dukes no choice but to jump through the windows.

But perhaps it’s best known for flying through the car, usually during a high-speed chase.

And no, we don’t mean flying through the air like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or the car at the end of Grease.

We just mean it takes off from the ground temporarily at a great speed.

At any rate, the General Lee was a crowd pleaser at the 2025 Somernites Cruise in the town of Somerset, Kentucky.

Stuntman Raymond Kohn was the man behind the wheel, as he took the car towards a ramp, catapulting it over the town’s Fountain Square.

The crowd erupted in cheers as the General Lee passed through the fluorescent blue water of the fountain and landed safely.

Well, it wasn’t totally seamless.

The bumpy landing led to one of the doors to fly off.

At any rate, it’s in a better condition than the General Lee found in this Georgia scrapyard.

But Kohn was okay, and that was the main thing.

Speaking to a local news outlet afterwards, he relieved the nail biter.

“You get one shot at it. This is a very scary situation,” Kohn said.

“You’re putting yourself in a life-and-death situation on purpose, and I just need to focus on one thing, hitting that ramp, and that’s it.”

We love a iconic TV show car

There have been plenty of iconic cars to grave our TV screens over the years.

Another 80s icon, KITT from Knight Rider, has popped up several times over the years, whether as a replica or built for an unaired show.

The Simpsons has also featured some wacky cars over the years, and even predicted a few car trends.

Even the sitcom Friends has played host to some nice sets of wheels – shown on the rare occasions the characters aren’t sat in the Central Perk coffee house.
