The iconic 59 Cadillac Ghostbusters ‘Ectomobile’ is a movie replica goldmine, and this UK company has hit the jackpot by recreating it to rent out at parties.

The Ectomobile might just be one of the most iconic cars in movie history.

Rivaled only by the likes of James Bond’s Aston Martin, Back to the Future’s DeLorean, Herbie, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Ecto-1 plated car is as much the main character as the busters themselves.

So wouldn’t it be cool to roll up to your next fancy dress party behind the wheel of this iconic car? These guys thought so.

UK car 59 Cadillac owner made their own Ghostbusters Ectomobile replica

While some movie replicas are quite flimsy knock-offs, we’ve recently seen some ungodly beasts be made off the back of iconic films, just like the Rolls-Royce Phantom to celebrate 60 years of James Bond’s Goldfinger.

WildCarHire in Leeds, UK, has created their own movie replica though, having imported an incredibly rare 1959 Cadillac Ambulance to mod it into an Ectomobile.

“I had an American eBay notification on, and after 10 years of searching I finally had a ding on my phone at quarter-past midnight one night and it had a buy-now price,” owner Mike Wild told Supercar Blondie.

Over the next five years, Mike put in around £80,000 ($95,000) of work to warp it into not just a Ghostbusters homage, but a real beast of a vehicle too.

“I originally built it with a V8 Diesel engine from an 80s Cadillac, but it was horrendous.

“I got a Corvette 5.7 injection and restor-modded that in with the four-speed electronic box, and I go all over the country with it.”

This Ghostbusters Ectomobile replica isn’t just a gimmick

The car was modded by Mike himself, who serves as a chauffeur when it is hired and drives it down ordinary motorways to events.

It comes with an impressive list of upgrades too, really injecting authenticity into the Ghostbusters replica.

“Everything is LED so I’ve got a twin battery system, an external sound system with sounds and effects, bundle lighting, and a rear projector for when it gets dark and you can see slime flying about in it.”

But its true beauty is the car isn’t just cheaply made; Take away the Ghostbusters element and this 59 Cadillac is a monster.

“I’ve put an air ride on the back of it, disk brake conversion on the front with hydro braking, and I’ve done all the interior myself – the original was grey and boring, and I wanted the red and white American diner style. But I’ve got all of the logos woven into the seats.”

“Even though it’s nearly three tonnes, it doesn’t half pick its feet up when we floor it.”

The car is primarily used for hire to weddings, birthdays, and other massive events, but has also featured in promotional campaigns for Ghostbusters Afterlife with Sony, Walkers, and Pepsi, and other brand adverts such as Hoodrich.

More movie replica cars are on the way

Movie car collections are quite the fascination, with one man rounding up some of the most recognizable Fast and Furious franchise cars and more.

However, movie replica cars are the next best thing, and WildCarHire is now planning an expansion past the Ectomobile and its two other cars (Eleanor Shelby Mustang from Gone in 90 Seconds and Pretty Woman’s 1989 Lincoln Town Limo).

The next on his list is the ’89 Batmobile.

“I’ve got the full Michael Keaton Batman outfit that I had made in America and I sometimes get dressed up in it – so the next project is an ’89 Batmobile,” Mike said.
