The friendliest drivers in America don’t keep all their road ragelessness by the beach, they, in fact, live in Idaho.

A new ranking just crowned the Gem State the king of calm behind the wheel, beating out all 49 others in a national ‘road ragelessness’ score.

Turns out, polite driving isn’t just possible – America’s friendliest drivers are thriving somewhere between the mountains, farmland, and open highways.

Oh, and one more thing: Idaho also has more cows than people. Coincidence? We’re not so sure.

The friendliest drivers in America

A Utah law firm crunched five years of data – from DUI arrests to fatal crash rates and driver surveys – and Idaho crushed it with a road ragelessness score of 83.76 out of 100.

That’s not just first place. That’s in a league of its own.

Hawaii came in second with its chill island energy, but a spike in DUI arrests knocked it down a notch. Alaska had friendly vibes too, but more accidents dragged its score lower.

Meanwhile, Idaho’s neighbors – Washington and Oregon – rounded out the top five, which basically makes the Pacific Northwest the unofficial national capital of ‘after you’ energy.

And you can’t blame this on population size. The numbers were adjusted per capita. Idaho just drives better.

Slower roads, bigger skies, and the occasional cow crossing all seem to help.

Less honking, more mooing

There are 2.5 million cows in Idaho and only 1.9 million humans. That’s not just trivia – it might explain a few things.

Because when you’re living in a place where cattle outnumber cars, road rage starts to feel… unnecessary. You’re probably not laying on the horn when the only traffic delay is a herd casually crossing the highway.

We’re not saying the cows are keeping everyone calm – but we’re not not saying it either.

Driving through Idaho, the pace is slower, the roads are wider, and half the job of being a passenger is saying ‘cows’ every time you spot one. That kind of rhythm just hits different.

Maybe it’s the landscape. Maybe it’s the lifestyle. Or maybe, when four hooves have the right of way, you learn to ease off the gas – and the attitude – resulting in peak road ragelessness.
