Excitement about the newest Apple mobile phone release is at an all-time high, and the iPhone 17 is poised to break a record untouched for 15 years since the iPhone 4.
For 15 years, the iPhone 4 has held the record for the longest time a model has remained as Apple’s flagship product.
Apple’s newest release is set to take over that record; it looks like the iPhone 17 is coming for the iconic phone’s crown.
Apple is clearly backing its newest iPhone release as a top-tier product, so only time will tell whether it can face up to the handset that many see as defining the tech developer entirely.

The iPhone 17 is coming for the record held by the iPhone 4 for 15 years
Over the years, Apple has been defined by its truly iconic pieces of tech.
Whether it was when the Macintosh was first released or when the world was introduced to the first-generation iPad, the tech giant has always set the bar that others strive to reach.
Back in June 2010, Apple released the now iconic iPhone 4, and it remained the tech giant’s flagship product for 16 months until October 2011, when it was replaced by its spiritual sibling, the iPhone 4S.
It’s hard to imagine an iPhone that didn’t have Siri, but the iPhone 4 was quintessentially Apple before the AI Assistant was born.

The new iPhone is planned to be more than a flash in the pan
We’ve already seen the iPhone 17 being tested out and about, so it’s not long until it hits the pockets and bags of the world.
Apple is clearly putting all of its eggs in the iPhone 17 basket by setting it up to be its new flagship product. Interestingly, it looks like it’s going for the iPhone 4’s record of longest time spent as an Apple flagship.
It just has to be the tech giant’s top-tier product for more than 16 months. It’s kind of surprising that the record hasn’t already been beaten, but unsurprising when you consider the rate Apple churns out new products.
It looks as though the iPhone 17 is going to be sticking around for a long time, as there are no real plans to create any other new Apple products in the pipeline. So it could hold the record for a while.
Only time will tell if the newest iPhone from Apple will be as iconic as the 4 was. We’ll just have to wait and see.
