Jay Leno has just tested out the American $25,000 EV truck that has got everyone talking.

And the car fanatic has shared his honest opinion on the creation.

This EV truck could potentially be revolutionary for the American market.

But what does the legendary TV presenter have to say about it?

Jay Leno tries out the Slate Truck

Jay Leno is no stranger to testing the greatest models in the car industry.

The legendary presenter’s most recent video has just been released.

And it features the American EV truck everyone is talking about, the Slate Truck, made by Slate Auto – a company backed by, among others, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

And it’s remarkable for one major reason – the cost.

The Slate Truck is being advertised as costing just $25,000 brand new.

This makes it half the cost of the average brand-new car.

So Jay Leno just had to get his hands on it, and mentioned straight away how excited he is about the project.

This is a vehicle that is entirely American-made; it’s also an inexpensive, ‘minimalist vehicle that people can afford.’

What excited Leno most, though, is the modular nature of this creation.

It is extremely customizable, meaning that people can modify and tailor the truck to their individual needs.

Brand’s leaders join Jay to break down the truck

Jay was joined by Slate’s leadership, including COO Jeremy Snyder and Tisha Johnson, Head of Design.

Snyder talked about the importance of bringing manufacturing back to America.

He also pointed out that the definition of an affordable car is ‘broken’ when it costs an average of $50,000.

Johnson pointed out how important the commitment to DIY is – people can really get into this project themselves.

To hit the target $25,000–$28,000 price point, Slate eliminated expensive complexities like power windows – it has manual cranks – power seats, and a built-in infotainment screen.

Instead, the Slate Truck features a universal phone mount with USB, allowing your cell phone to act as the main interface.

After they discussed the philosophy and mindset of the company, Jay decided to hit the road in the new EV truck.

And he was joined by Snyder for the trip.

The truck features a single, rear-mounted motor that produces 201hp, and it’s estimated to hit 0-60 in about eight seconds.

But performance is clearly not the priority of the Slate Truck.

Instead, the focus is on practicality, affordability, and being accessible to the masses.

What does Jay Leno think of this American $25,000 EV truck?

One feature that really caught Leno’s attention is the North American Charging Standard, or Tesla-style, port, which allows access to Tesla’s existing Supercharger network.

And this could make it a key selling point for apartment dwellers in the cities and urban areas.

So, after taking it for a ride around the block, what did Jay Leno think of the Slate Truck?

Leno’s main takeaway was that he is very impressed by the ‘honesty’ of the EV.

His closest point of comparison was the trucks of the 1960s and ’70s – vehicles that were meant for practicality and work.

Visibility was another point of praise due to the low ‘frunk’ height.

If Jay Leno is right, the Slate Truck might just be the next big thing in the car industry.
