Reservations for the Jeff Bezos-backed Slate Auto cheap EV pickup truck have gone through the roof in recent days.
Bezos has put his money into the Slate Truck, which is set to be one of the cheapest electric trucks on the market.
Americans are flocking to it, putting their money where their mouths are, and paying for deposits en masse.
What is impressive is just how many reservations the truck had, only two weeks after orders opened.

According to the company, the Slate EV has received over 100,000 reservations already.
If you want to reserve one of the trucks, all you need to do is put down a $50 deposit which is also refundable.
The simplicity and flexibility of the Slate have been big selling points for the truck.
But perhaps its biggest selling point is how it is expected to start at below $20,000.
That is a very attractive price point, as, in North America, EVs in general rarely fall below the $30,000 mark.
The company is aiming to make its new product highly customizable.
This means customers could convert it into an SUV with a few changes.
It isn’t just the body design that is customizable, either.
Slate Auto has revealed that there are nearly an infinite number of color options to choose from for the truck.
As standard, the pickup comes in a base gray.
However, other options are available as a vinyl wrap.
The advantage of this over regular paint jobs is that owners can simply decide to take the wrap off in the future and have the vehicle in a different color.

It also creates the potential for some crazy color combinations, perhaps involving a two-tone design or even multiple colors over different parts of the body.
Given the truck is still very much in the testing phase, it is impressive how many reservations have already come in for the EV.
The reservations are no guarantee, but it shows the level of interest in the Bezos-backed vehicle.
Slate will be hoping it can avoid the fate of the Tesla Cybertruck, which had over a million reservations, many of which went unsold.
