France and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé owns a large collection of cars, but he actually doesn’t drive any of them.

Mbappé’s salary has a lot of zeros in it, and that has been the case for a very long time.

In a way, this is the (indirect) reason why he can’t drive any of those cars.

Kylian Mbappé has just joined Real Madrid in what is undoubtedly the biggest soccer move in recent years, up there with Cristiano Ronaldo joining Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia or Lionel Messi joining Inter Miami.

This brings us on to Mbappé’s outrageous salary.

The 25-year-old striker is set to receive around $28 million annually, plus a reported signing-on bonus of around $108 million.

This puts him firmly in the same category as Cristiano Ronaldo among the world’s best-paid athletes, a list that Ronaldo actually dominates.

Mbappé will certainly spend some of that cash to buy a lot more cars he can’t drive.

The simple reason why Kylian Mbappé can’t drive

The reason why Mbappé can’t drive his Ferrari 458 or any of his other cars is actually quite simple: he doesn’t have a license.

As reported by Spanish sports newspaper Marca, Mbappé said on more than one occasion he doesn’t need one either.

“For many people it is an obligation, but it was not for me, it has never been a priority,” he said.

Like several other players of his caliber, Mbappé became a star when he was young.

He made his professional debut when he was only 17, in 2015, and by the age of 20 he’d already made his international debut with the France National Team and joined PSG.

As a result of this impressive trajectory, Mbappé has had access to a personal driver pretty much throughout his entire career.

His move to Real Madrid was long overdue

Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid had been the subject of intense speculation for years.

For years, pundits and fans have been putting the words ‘Mbappé’ and ‘Real Madrid’ in the same sentence every summer.

The 25-year-old player was inches away from joining Real Madrid in 2022, when French President Emmanuel Macron himself torpedoed his signing for the Spanish club.

You know it’s a big deal when the head a state interrupts his day to go ask a soccer player to stay.
