Lamborghini: A brand born from rivalry
Despite being one of the most iconic brands in the world, most people still don’t fully know the origin story of the company.
Ferruccio Lamborghini, the man after whom the company is named, started his life in a very different field.
In fact, Ferruccio was a very successful…tractor manufacturer.
Yes, you read that right – the brand’s origin story starts with farm machinery.
Thanks to his tractor-building success, Ferruccio was able to afford the finest luxury cars of the era.
Of course, being Italian, this naturally included Ferrari cars at the top of the list.
Among the cars owned by Ferruccio was the legendary Ferrari 250 GT.

Ferruccio was always unhappy with the clutch system in the Ferrari, feeling it to be inferior to other cars.
The tractor manufacturer proposed, to Enzo Ferrari himself, that he use the clutch system found in his tractors, which was much better.
Ferrari, now famously, publicly humiliated Lamborghini by telling him to ‘stick to making tractors.’
Instead, Automobili Lamborghini was founded in Sant’Agata Bolognese in Bologna, Italy, in 1963.
And from there, the legendary, bull-branded marque was born.
Italian brand breaks sales records
Of course, since then, the Italian automaker has only gone from strength to strength.
And that has been reflected in this past years’ sales records.
In 2024, it achieved a truly massive milestone.
The Bologna brand announced that it sold 10,687 cars worldwide that year.

Compared to 2023, this represented a massive six percent increase in sales for the supercar maker.
Interestingly, despite global economic uncertainty, demand for supercars is on the rise.
And the Italian manufacturer has managed to place itself firmly at the forefront of that demand.
It’s estimated that the company’s success in 2024 earned the brand around $3.9 billion in revenue.
So if anybody needs to borrow $20, ask Lamborghini – they should be good for it.
