Men try to drive Lamborghini toy cars 100 miles through the Oregon desert and it actually goes better than you'd expect

These guys tried driving Lamborghini toy cars through the Oregon desert, and it went much, much better than expected.

The fact the car managed to survive the trip without falling apart was certainly what you’d call a win, and certainly more than they could have hoped for.

But there a couple of two things worth noting.

Because technically they cheated – not only once, but twice.

The guys behind the Grind Hard Plumbing Co. YouTuber channel decided to embark on a challenge that’s every bit as ridiculous as it is ambitious: they decided to drive unmodified Power Wheels toy cars for 100 miles through the rough terrain of the Oregon desert.

Mind you, the term ‘unmodified’ was used pretty loosely here, but we’ll get to that later.

For this challenge, they used three toy Lambos, which is the first catch.

Obviously, they couldn’t share one Lambo between them – because these cars are quite tiny – but using three vehicles instead of one certainly increases your odds.

Despite the horrible washboard, steep hills, and all kinds of debris, the cars survived undamaged.

Although we should probably also explain what ‘undamaged’ means.

Structurally and mechanically, the cars were sound and managed to complete the journey, but that only means that the various mechanical problems weren’t enough to kill the cars outright.

But it wasn’t smooth sailing. Not at all.

There were occasional failures, some battery problems, and the wiring kept wreaking havoc, probably precisely because the washboard was shaking the cars to pieces.

But other than that, the cars were fine.

Cosmetically, there was a different story.

By the time the journey ended, let’s just say you could tell they hadn’t led an easy life.

And remember these are cheap and brittle vehicles made of plastic.

So you can’t expect the strength, resistance, and sturdiness of carbon fiber or even aluminum or steel.

How they managed to get across the desert

Even though the three Lamborghini toy cars were left largely unmodified, the team did at least two things that improved their odds.

First, they used three cars – not just one.

Second, even though they claimed the cars were unmodified, they did make one change, and it was a crucial change.

Rather than relying on ‘normal’ chargers, they fitted 3D-printed battery adapters to run on power tool batteries.

That’s like saying you’re going to the desert with no chargers for your phone but then you bring a powerbank or two.

Then again, this is an understandable change because we’re assuming the Oregon desert isn’t exactly teeming with charging points.

Be that as it may, they did manage to cover 73 miles in the desert, and they managed to do it without wrecking or totaling the cars.

Believe it or not, all three vehicles were still usable after the trip.

Not bad for an Aventador-shaped toy car.
