So, taking one for the Tesla team, one creator shared a list of sneaky factors that contribute to your battery being no more.

From modes that might be tuned on without you realizing, to driving habits, he has you covered when it comes to keeping your battery in good shape.

This is what is killing your Tesla’s battery

The battery in your Tesla is super sensitive, but there are some habits and modes that could be quietly draining its performance.

Tesla enthusiast Vegas Tesla Carmen broke down the top elements that contribute to your battery failing, and you may be shocked.

Summon Standby

First up on the list is Summon Standby Mode, and this setting could be on without you even realizing, leaving your car semi awake, which drains the battery quickly.

The setting keeps elements active when your EV is parked, and helps Smart Summon to come on quicker, but harms your battery in the process.

So, all you need to do is turn it off in the settings. Simple, really.

Cabin Overheat Protection

Next up is having Cabin Overheat Protection on, which is a feature that helps to keep your interior cool while parked.

Although handy, there’s a more efficient way of keeping your car cool for when you get into the driver’s seat.

Instead of keeping the Cabin Overheat Protection on constantly, using air-conditioning, use the Tesla app to cool it down instead.

Sentry Mode

Although Sentry Mode is super handy to have and offers a whole new level of security and protection, it can be a big contributing cause to a dead battery.

Instead, use it more sparingly and disable it at some locations. Your Tesla’s battery will thank you later.

Tesla app refreshing

We know it’s tempting to keep opening the Tesla app to check charging stats, but as it awakens the EV, it actually drains your Tesla’s battery.

So, as they say, patience is a virtue. Which means using the app only when needed, as checking doesn’t speed up the charging process.

Your Tesla’s battery could also be affected by this

Aside from the hidden points that many Tesla drivers may be unaware of, Vegas Tesla Carmen also shared some more generic advice on battery health.

He explained that extreme weather is especially bad for range degradation, and, living in Las Vegas, he knows this all too well.

Extreme cold also affects the battery, but only temporarily, whereas heat does lasting, long-term damage.

Furthermore, keeping your battery either supercharged at 100 percent, or super dead at 0 percent, puts extra strain and stress on the cells, killing the Tesla’s battery faster.

The best practice? Keep it between 20 percent and 80 percent.

Lastly, installing roof racks and having underinflated tires also damages the battery more than you think, and wastes energy.

As the creator has a Performance variant, he also detailed thar agressive acceleration affects the battery, but more in terms of decreasing range than anything else.

So, there you go, these things may seem simple, but they all add up.

Learn from others’ mishaps to avoid your Tesla’s battery from packing up sooner, but if all else fails, at least Tesla offers a battery warranty.
