This man wanted to figure out whether lava or acid was more destructive, so he used a car in his experiment.
YouTuber Mark Rober may well be the first person to ever think of a ‘lava vs. acid’ destruction face-off.
Pitting these destructive forces against one another, he set them loose on seven items.
One of these items was a fully functioning car, and whether it was going to be lava or acid causing the most damage – he threw in his own wildcard destructive agent for each round, too.

Setting lava and acid loose – what’s the worst that could happen?
Assisting Rober in his experiment was NileRed, and Kevin the Backyard Scientist.
These two were experts in acid and lava, respectively – which are admittedly quite niche fields.
Seven items were up for destruction – a turkey leg, an iPad, stacked ice slabs, a collection of toys, a baseball bat, a diamond, and a functioning car – and you can see it all in the full video embedded below.
On each round, Rober would determine whether acid or lava did a better job of breaking down the item, while also offering up his own wildcard third option.

When it came to the turkey leg, acid proved to be far more effective in breaking it down, as the lava mostly cooked it from the outside.
Rober’s wildcard option was meant to be piranhas, but since they’re illegal to own in California, he opted for some substitute fish, which barely nibbled the leg.
Lava gained back a point when it came to the iPad, where the acid did surprisingly little damage even when the tablet was soaked in it.
On this round, Rober’s wildcard option scored a point when his golf-ball cannon shattered the iPad.
Acid clawed back its lead on the ice slabs, where it bore through all the layers, standing in stark comparison to the lava, which barely made it through.
Rober rolled out a flamethrower and an anvil, but ultimately acid reigned supreme on this round.

On the ‘toy city’ – filled with action figures and Lego figures – lava proved to be the greater destructive force.
It also looked really cool to see the lava seeping down this makeshift volcano.
Rober’s wild card of a two-ton steamroller was certainly…effective, but lava still won out this time around.
There was another win for lava with the baseball bat – despite Rober pulling in a laser as his wildcard.
As for the diamond, neither lava nor acid made a dent in it.
Not even Rober attempting to smash it with a hammer made a lick of difference.
With the car coming in last, this round was worth two points – which one would prove victorious in this destruction contest?

How did the car fare in this destruction contest?
It was the one we’d all been waiting for.
Three cars were brought in for this one, each one to be subjected to lava, acid, and Rober’s wildcard option (A 50-ton excavator, to be exact).
First up was acid, placed in a beaker above the engine of the first car.

A slingshot was used to fire a stone into the beaker, spraying acid into the engine bay.
“That is terrifying! I’ve never seen a gas that color before!” one of the hosts remarked, as orange fumes rose up from the car.
Despite all of that, the car was still running, so the acid hadn’t been as successful as had been hoped.
Now it was the wildcard’s turn.
As Rober slammed the excavator’s arm into the car, he was doing a good job of reducing the car’s body to ruin.

He then proceeded to swing it around, drop it, and drive over it, leaving it a crumpled wreck.
Lava was going to have to deliver big time if it wanted a shot at winning this round.
Once poured into the engine bay, it instantly set alight.

Fire extinguishers were on hand, but they proved ineffective at first.
The ultimate verdict? Lava was the ultimate champion.
And what prize did its welder receive? The diamond that none of them could destroy.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen cars being destroyed for the sake of a YouTube channel – remember the time one content creator launched his Tesla off a cliff?
And that’s not forgetting WhistlinDiesel’s infamous Ferrari stunt.
