LeBron James signed an $87m endorsement deal
LeBron James is one of the most iconic American athletes of the modern era.
The Akron, Ohio native is considered by many to be one of the greatest basketball players ever.
For 23 years, ‘King James’ has lit up the National Basketball League (NBA).
He has achieved all of this while being partnered with Nike.
LeBron and Nike have been partners since May of 2003.
As a rookie, LeBron famously signed a seven-year, $87 million endorsement deal.

This was despite higher monetary offers from sportswear rivals Reebok and Adidas.
In December 2015, LeBron James signed a lifetime contract with Nike.
It was reportedly the first lifetime deal in the brand’s history.
The deal was also reported to be worth more than $1,000,000,000.
This story brings us all the way back to 2013.

It would prove to be LeBron’s final year playing for the Miami Heat.
2013 would also mark the 10-year anniversary of the partnership.
That year, Nike released the Nike LeBron X1 ‘King’s Pride’ floral shoes.
So the sportswear behemoth decided to mark the release in a memorable way.

They decided to use a $670,000 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster to market the release.
Partnering with designer Rich B Caliente, it was finished, from head to toe, in a nature-inspired design.
The customized Aventador Roadster was unveiled at the VIP preview of the 11/11 Experience event in Miami.
This release was paired with the aforementioned ‘King’s Pride’ floral shoes.
