A man who went 45,000 miles over his mileage allotment in his leased Mercedes was hit with a hefty bill by the dealership.
Typically, leasing a car comes with some strict rules to adhere to.
These can include things like making sure you don’t return your car with any damage, and making sure you stick to your mileage limits.
Recently, one guy found out exactly what happens if you don’t follow that second rule.

The driver got hit with a massive bill
Failing to stick to the rules set out for your leased vehicle can have costly consequences, just ask the guy who was hit with a $16,000 bill after returning his leased Tesla 3.
Over in the US, TikTok user and car sales associate @ridinwithintegrity recently shared a clip about a driver who landed a large bill for his leased Mercedes.

In the clip, he explained that the man had signed a 36-month contract for the Mercedes with a 12,000-mile per year allowance.
However, when the time came to return the vehicle, he had put 81,000 miles on the clock, meaning he’d gone over his mileage allotment by 45,000 miles.
He broke down what this meant for the leasee.
“He will get billed from Mercedes for $11,250 for the mileage penalty alone,” he explained.
And the fees don’t stop there.
He went on to say that the extra miles mean the car will need new tires and it ‘had some damage’, which – as you might have guessed – the driver will also be charged for.
Why it was ‘worth it’ for the driver
In a follow-up clip, the TikToker explained that the man was so over his mileage allowance because shortly after leasing the Mercedes, he was given a promotion, which involved a further commute and more driving.
The man knew he was going way over his miles, but as the promotion also came with a hefty pay rise, he decided it was worth it.
“It was a risk versus reward scenario,” he explained.
