A Las Vegas buyer thought he scored a dream deal on a million-dollar Porsche Carrera GT at a gas station, but maybe it was too good to be true.
After driving it home and putting it up on a lift for the first proper inspection a week later, things got unexpectedly real.
What started as hidden damage checks quickly shifted into some serious repair maths, drama with the exhaust, and surprise mechanical failures.
The Carrera GT may still be a unicorn, but it seems to be a beautiful unicorn that comes with some serious baggage.

A man bought a Porsche Carrera GT off a gas station stranger
There’s nothing like a classic Porsche Carrera GT supercar, but when this Houston Crosta first raised the GT he’d bought off a stranger in a Vegas gas station in the air, the damage was minor but real.
The panels had scrapes, the mud flaps needed replacing, and some worn, dated tires hinted at neglect rather than abuse.
When he did the inspection of the underbody, it revealed no major leaks or cracked parts, which was a good sign, but there were small quirks.
The air duct pieces in the Carrera GT had tiny cracks held together by safety wire but the biggest early win was an almost new clutch he found.

A simple measurement showed the clutch was in excellent condition, which saved him a whopping $43,000 in service costs right off the bat.
While these findings were mostly manageable, he put plans in motion to replace the dead battery and install new headlights.
A top-tier stainless steel aftermarket exhaust was ordered by him, and further suspension plus wheel upgrades were being lined up.
At that stage, it seemed like just a matter of time before the Carrera GT would be a clean, proper build, but it seemed that the car had more twists to reveal.

There was an unexpected mechanical drama
Just as the guy and his were working through fixing it up and planning mods, a more serious issue showed up.
On the dyno, the Porsche lost power because one of the turbos had failed, and limp mode kicked in, and it was clear a new turbo was needed.
At the same time, a fuel pump failure popped up, forcing a whole dismantling to locate and fix the faulty pump problem, and it seemed that suddenly the project flipped from a refresh to an unexpected mechanical overhaul.
With potential buyers for the supercar already lined up and the Porsche Carrera GT listed for sale again, the Vegas man might find this gas station unicorn he found has turned into a race against time.
