When Alex bought a Volvo 940 for just $500, he didn’t know he was getting a car with more miles than most people travel in a lifetime.

This remarkable vehicle has traveled 721,032 miles (1,160,388 kms).

That’s equivalent to driving around the world 29 times.

And unsurprisingly, the Volvo 940 has a rich history.

Highest mileage Volvo bought for just $500

As featured on YouTube by Autoalex Cars, the Volvo 940 originally served as VIP transport in the UK.

And the car covered over half of its miles – 360,000 – within its first three years.

Back then, the car received a 10,000-mile service every six weeks to keep it in top shape.

However, over the years, the maintenance costs added up to £36,000.

This is not the first Volvo to set an example of the brand’s durability.

This Volvo P1800 was driven 3.2 million miles with only one owner.

Meanwhile, a man who drove 1,000,000 miles in his 1991 Volvo received an incredible gift after hitting the milestone.

Future plans for the car

Today, Alex’s car is well-kept, with only a few minor issues.

The engine bay is pristine, the tires are brand new, and a few parts like the cambelt, crank pulley, and auxiliary belt tensioner were replaced.

But as you can imagine, it’s not in perfect condition.

The car has an oil leak, worn coolant hoses, a faulty handbrake, and some suspension parts show rust.

Despite these minor issues, Alex has grand plans for the car.

He has committed to restoring the car to its former glory and adding many more miles to its odometer.
