Having become an Amazon delivery driver as an experiment, one YouTuber has revealed what it’s like as a job, and you might be surprised.
Online shopping has taken over, and we’re hot on the way to having Amazon and Deliveroo rule our lives.
Whether it’s the latest haul from Shein, incoming tat from Temu, or Saturday night treat from the local takeout, none of these would hit your house without help from a delivery driver.
So, in a bid to document the life of these pillarstone workers, one YouTuber enlisted as a courier for a DSP, or Delivery Service Partner, for Amazon, and showcased the trials and tribulations of the job.

YouTuber reveals the processes, payments, and lifestyle of a delivery driver
While deliveries could soon be automated thanks to Tesla’s FSD systems, you can’t beat a delivery driver who goes above and beyond.
Like this Jet Pack-laden Dominos delivery man making sure festival goers got their slice of pizza, for example.
To test out the life of a courier, Just Alex embarked on a sidequest with Amazon, which put him through a training program.
The UK driver had his license, but needed to complete further theory training, an exam, and drug and alcohol checks, before joining a ‘ride-along’ system with experienced drivers.
But he was soon given the freedom to complete his own shifts, getting behind the wheel of a rented Mercedes van and going touring the English countryside with a bed full of parcels.

As far as the driving goes, Alex claimed that it’s much harder than it looks, due to the size of the vehicle and the fear of damaging a rental car.
“Driving around the Mercedes was fun, but also it’s so high-tech it just beeps at you all the time. It beeps when you’re not even that close to anything,” he said.
But knowing the tight country lanes on his routes became paramount, as the huge van was a difficult handler.
“Every day, I would fear having to stop in the middle of a road and be honked at. It is stressful. Possibly the worst thing about delivery driving is that you’re often not treated with respect.”
However, there were a number of perks in the working schedule.
“One of the best parts about this job is it’s so flexible, he continued.
“You can choose your days. You can work a two-day week, a three-day week, a four-day week, a five-day week, whatever suits you.”
The YouTuber revealed that he roughly earned $170 for a 9-hour shift – with some seasonal incentive bonuses to aim for – but after the van rent and other fees, he came out closer to $135 a day.
However, the real crux of the job was the customers.
Dog threats and angry customers, 80 days on the road for Amazon
Amazon delivery drivers scan hundreds of parcels every day, and while they are looking at new technology such as smart glasses to make this easier, there’s no avoiding customers.
Due to the size of the Mercedes van, he was often honked at or shouted at by customers and pedestrians.
Recounting one experience, he revealed that an off-duty cop was one of the angry bystanders who got to him.
“I was literally just pulling up somewhere for a maximum of like two minutes to deliver a couple of parcels, and this guy comes out of his house shouting at me, ‘I’m a police officer, and I can give you a fine for parking there’,” he said.
“I explained it in a calm way, and he was like, ‘Don’t answer me back, you don’t talk to a police officer like that.’ Not only does it stress you out, but it also makes you feel really bad.”

He also revealed how dogs would often come charging out the doors – not all of them being friendly – and these stories were echoed by the other drivers back in the warehouse.
However, there are some nice people out there. One fan of his channel noticed him doing the rounds and asked for pictures, while another lady gifted him a pack of sweets and chips.
All in all, he claimed the job helped him gain confidence on the road and with social interaction, and said it was a worthwhile experience.
