After finding what he deemed to be the ‘weirdest airport on Google Maps’, this aviator discovered a slice of history by landing his 1978 Grumman AA-5B Tiger in Indiana.
Airports are weird as it is.
LAX is a maze and Denver International gives you a stitch when running cross-country to your gate.
But this tiny crop circle has turned out to be the weirdest airport of the lot.

Man finds the weirdest airport in America and unearths aviation history
People have found some fantastic slices of aviation history through Google Maps.
Whether it’s abandoned planes, like the Boeing 737 in Canada, or bizarre, unlabeled landing strips in the middle of a South American jungle, the satellite imagery comes in clutch at unearthing some great airplane stories.
One Massachusetts man has now found the weirdest airport in the US through Google Maps, identifying a runway in a crop circle.

Known as Converse Circular Airport, Indiana, the tiny 1,800ft stretch appears to be in the middle of nowhere.
But its unique nature is that it’s actually just a concrete circle.
Originally made by the US Navy during World War II and sold to the town of Culver, Indiana, in 1947, it remains the only active circular paved airport in the country… although it is technically octagonal.
It was intended to have multiple overlapping runways to allow people to land from all directions and in harsh winds, but only one direction is still painted.

Documented on the Fly With Bruno YouTube channel, the man and his partner landed their 1978 Grumman AA-5B Tiger on the runway, showing off the pristine WWII-era concrete.
It took three attempts to land on the short runway, which goes to show why it was designed to have multiple angles of entry.
Strangest runways in the world
While this might be the weirdest airport in America, it joins stiff competition around the globe.
Extremely challenging runways in Nepal are enough to send shivers down your spine, while there are only 50 pilots in the world who are qualified to take on the landing strip at Paro International Airport, Bhutan.
And ramping up the wackiness, this floating airport in Japan is slowly sinking.
But at least the weirdest airport in the US remains active, even if it’s a struggle to land at.
