McLaren owners open up on what it's actually like to drive the supercar on a daily basis

These McLaren owners have been getting candid on what it’s like to count one of these supercars as their daily drivers.

It’s a brand with a big reputation.

So it’s only natural that the owners would want to share their thoughts on driving one.

For some, it was a great experience, while for others there’d been a ton of issues – but regardless of where people landed, they had a lot to say.

McLaren owners opened up about their experiences on Reddit

One Redditor took to the Supercars subreddit to pose a question to other McLaren owners.

Plenty of car questions have been posed on the site, primarily attempts to identify mysterious cars or pinpoint problematic parking behavior.

“Can they handle being driven daily and used as normal cars, or do they prefer to be weekend warrior/garage queen toys?” No-Volume7464 asked.

This Redditor admitted that he was currently driving an Audi R8, but said that a McLaren was his dream car.

He wanted to know if it was a good investment.

Fortunately for him, plenty of people weighed in with their own stories.

“Only had my 570S for a year. It is old and 47,000 miles and no issues so far apart from when I let a friend borrow it for a day and had to replace the parking brake,” one owner wrote.

“It is driven a lot and I don’t worry or cringe.”

As you can expect, this comment elicited a lot of people requesting to befriend them.

One person admitted to being happy with their McLaren, but said they avoided driving it to work for one reason.

“My boss is the CTO of the company, and he drives a Honda Civic,” they explained.

“And I know although he is wealthier than I am, probably…. I figure it would be a career limiting move if I try to one up him.

“So I pretend I am poor and bring my 94 Miata to work… The car that has all the interior gutted, no air conditioning, and no radio.”

That’s as good a reason as any to not use your McLaren as a daily driver – career advancement.

It’s not always a great experience however

Some people had their misgivings about McLarens though, and they didn’t hold back in sharing them.

“All the rumors and jokes are true. My 570s was in the shop half the time I owned it,” one wrote.

“I don’t speak for all McLaren owners, as I bet some owners have had no issues, but from my personal experience, I would stay far away from the brand. The bad McLarens are really bad.”

Another highlighted a problem they’d noticed after daily driving.

“The biggest issue you are going to have daily driving the car is road rash,” they commented.

“The car sits very low to the ground it’s very easy to scrape the car in front and on the sides of the door and the rear.”
