This is the new Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic concept, and it might just remind you of a Batmobile.
But this is also a statement from Mercedes.
After so many SUVs and sedans, the German automaker wants to remind everyone it still knows how to design two-door coupes and supercars.
And the interior is spectacular.

A retro-futuristic icon
For the Vision Iconic, Mercedes-Benz drew inspiration from a very long list of flagship models of the past.
It features a three-pointed standing star on the hood, like most Mercedes models from the 1990s and 2000s, and a large illuminated grille at the front that’s a tribute to the W108, W111, and 600 Pullman.
The rear section honors the 300 SL, arguably the most important Mercedes vehicle ever made.

But the best part is the interior, halfway between a 1950s diner and a spaceship.
Inside, you’ll find velour upholstery and a dashboard with four clocks, one of which is shaped like the brand logo, and a steering wheel that looks like it came from a boat.

This Mercedes-Benz is more than just a design exercise
The Vision Iconic is first and foremost a statement.
Supercar manufacturers and luxury car makers have been focusing on sedans, shooting brakes, and SUVs in recent times.
The Elettrica, Ferrari’s first EV, will almost certainly not be a supercar.
And the same goes for the Lanzador or even the Mercedes-AMG GT XX, which is a four-door sedan.
With this concept, Mercedes wanted everyone to know it still knows how to design supercars.

The Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic is electric, and it’s also autonomous.
According to Mercedes, the Vision Iconic is capable of Level-4 autonomy, which means it can drive itself without human assistance.
Unfortunately, Mercedes hasn’t said anything about potentially putting this into production.
But hopefully it will.
