The world lost a crucial asset when legend Bruno Sacco unfortunately passed away last week, as he was the one who designed some of the most iconic Mercedes-Benz vehicles ever built.

If you’re a car enthusiast, you know how shiny the golden era of Mercedes-Benz was, and Sacco had a huge part to play in the design of those cars.

The Italian-German designer passed away at the age of 90 in Sindelfingen last week.

Here’s a look at his legacy, which includes some of the greatest cars ever made in the past few decades.

The best Mercedes cars designed by Bruno Sacco

Bruno Sacco’s tenure began back in 1958, where he was the ‘second stylist’ at the company.

Over the years, he climbed up the ranks and eventually reached the role of ‘Oberingenieur’ in 1975 — which was basically the head of the stylistic department.

W100 (600)

The Mercedes-Benz 600, also called W100, was one of the first cars produced by the German automaker under Sacco’s leadership, and it was an instant hit.

Mercedes had already been creating remarkable cars back then, but the 600 stood out and practically had no competition because of its unique design.

C 111 (Second Generation)

Next up, the Mercedes-Benz C 111 was the carmaker’s attempt at getting rid of traditional engines in favor of Wankel rotary engines.

Although it always stayed a prototype, it was a step up from what cars looked like, thanks to its gullwing doors and pop-up headlights.

W123 (Mercedes E-Class)

After Sacco became the head of the stylistics department, his work on the W123 series brought the designer tremendous fame from fans worldwide.

Needless to say, all W123 models were gorgeous pieces of machinery for the likes of 1977 and also what we know as the E-Class today.

W126 (Mercedes S-Class)

The W123 series was a sensation at the time, which further inspired the W126 series that we know as S-Class today.

Although the W126 made for an excellent – and luxurious – ride back then, the world got to know it as a high-end executive car used by corporations and businessmen.

Moreover, the 126 was Bruno Sacco’s personal favorite, and he remarked it as ‘the best thing he had ever done for Mercedes-Benz.’

W201 (190)

The Mercedes-Benz 190 only had one goal — to rival the BMW E30 — which it did beautifully.

Thanks to its super-efficient aerodynamic design, Sacco implemented something that would outshine the E30 by a long stretch.

It did all that while looking like a good-ol’ Merc, which was a massive plus.

Although these are only a handful of the designs in Bruno Sacco’s extensive portfolio, the entire catalog naturally resonates with what Mercedes-Benz used to be.

It’s safe to say that his designs were timeless and will likely stay that way forever.
