Mercedes has designed a special one-of-a-kind car to honor two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer ahead of his final appearance at Augusta National in Georgia this weekend.
The veteran German golfer – who triumphed at the annual April major in 1985 and 1993 – is taking his final curtain call at Augusta this week after over four decades, and Mercedes wanted to do something special for him.
After all, he’s been the marque’s brand ambassador for most of those 40 years, so it’s been there for all the highs and lows of his Hall of Fame career.
At least after he steps inside the ropes for the last time, he’ll drive down the iconic Magnolia Lane in style.

A fitting tribute to an incredible career
In a press release announcing the tribute car, Mercedes described the 67-year-old’s Augusta exit as ‘the end of an era’ marking 40 years since his maiden triumph at the course.
To pay homage to his legacy, the marque designed a ‘one-off handcrafted vehicle’ bearing some special touches that commemorate his career and the place that made it special.
OK, it isn’t as flashy as this model modded for musician will.i.am, and they didn’t have to shut down a whole factory to make it, but this is golf – it’s more about quiet, elegant class.

The car itself is a personalized S-Class that was handed over to the in-house Mercedes MANUFAKTUR facility in Sindelfingen – where this Maybach Mercedes was made – for customization.
It comes with several Masters logos lovingly embroidered with over 2,800 stitches, as well as Langer’s signature.
The car – like Langer himself – looks set to stand the test of time.

The marque of a true gentleman
“Bernhard is a true golf icon, who has been an integral member of the Mercedes-Benz family for nearly 40 years.
“As we celebrate his extraordinary career, we honor our deep bond with a personalized S-Class crafted especially for him.
“We’re excited for many more great moments with him on the road ahead,” the German automaker said.

“It means a lot to me to be able to play the Masters one final time – a tournament that has shaped my career so much.
“The fact that Mercedes-Benz is accompanying me here and is honoring me with this special car makes this moment even more special,” Langer added.

Langer’s final spin at The Masters is set to be an emotional event, and he was clearly choked up during his press conference on Monday.
“It is going to be a bittersweet experience realizing it’s going to be my last competitive rounds here at the Masters Tournament.
“At the same time, I realize the course is too long, and I’m getting shorter,” he told reporters.
“I have no chance to win anymore, so it’s time to say goodbye.
“But it will also be a special time to be there with all my family and friends to support me and to say farewell from one of my favorite events and venues,” he concluded.
The Masters gets underway at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this Thursday.
