Michigan cops add car you would never expect to their fleet

A new recruit has joined the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan – a 1981 Chevy Camaro Z28.

What makes this car special is that it has not been acquired with the hard-earned taxpayers money.

This Chevy Camaro is funded by the drug forfeiture fund, which came from a lengthy 17-month investigation into drug cartels.

Sheriff William Federspiel states that this move makes financial sense and sends a powerful message to those involved in illegal activities.

“I’m not afraid,” he said.

“I’m not afraid to let drug dealers know that I’m coming for them if they want to continue to do that type of work here in Saginaw County.

“We won’t tolerate it.”

He further revealed that the $29,000 spent on the Camaro and its upgrades was much less than the $42,000 cost of a regular Dodge Charger.

From the paint job to the lights, and every modification done to make the car cop-ready was paid by the forfeited money from those into illegal business.

A brave move by the department

This move not only highlights the bravery of the Michigan police department, but also gives a classic appeal to their amazing car fleet.

After all, the 1981 Chevy Camaro Z28 is one of the most impressive muscle cars in automotive history.

However, this isn’t the first time we have seen amazing cars used for law enforcement purposes.

Italian police, for example, have famously added Lamborghinis and other supercars to their fleet.

In another similar incident, California police also made headlines by adding Tesla electric vehicles into their lineup.
