This Minnesota Dodge Charger EV driver got a ticket from a cop because his exhaust was too loud.
Cops often give out tickets to drivers, but that’s usually for speeding.
So it might strike us as odd to hear that a Dodge Charger driver got handed a ticket for excessive noise.
But for one driver in Minnesota, that’s exactly what happened.

How this Dodge Charger EV driver ended up with a ticket for a noisy exhaust
There might be some initial confusion over this story, and that’s understandable.
After all, EVs don’t have exhausts, and the Dodge Charger EV is no different.
However, the Charger makes noises like it does and to proved to be a problem for one police officer in the Minnesota city of Stillwater.
You see, this city has a strict noise ordinance.

And it just so happened that a guy called Mike was driving through in his Dodge Charger EV with a group of car enthusiasts.
Mike was eight cars deep in a queue at a red light when the car up front ‘peeled away loud as hell’.
It was there that a state trooper slapped Mike with a ticket, listing his offenses as ‘loud muffler/loud exhaust’, ‘front and rear license plates required’, and ‘public nuisance – annoy/injure/endanger safety’.
Recalling the event, Mike said that the trooper wasn’t willing to discuss the matter with him.

“The trooper stepped up and immediately told me my car’s exhaust was way too loud and was disturbing the peace,” Mike told The Drive.
“I tried telling him it’s an EV and doesn’t have an exhaust or an engine, and he stated he’s not gonna argue with me.”
Although the incident happened three months back, Mike still hasn’t paid the fine.
But he also hasn’t fought it, claiming that the ‘case number is not in the court’s system’.
He says he’s called up the courthouse for a date every week for 10 weeks, and still hasn’t heard anything back.

Tickets can prove to be costly
This isn’t the first time that a driver has been hit with an unexpected ticket.
But compared to some of the ones that have been dished out over the years, this Dodge Charger driver got off relatively lightly – some tickets have cost more than $1 million.
One Koenigsegg Jesko driver was hit with a parking ticket while he was dining nearby.
It wouldn’t be the first time that the police force has made some major stops with wild cars.
In fact, one California cop managed to pull over 34 single-file Porsches at once, issuing speeding tickets to all of them.
No matter what car you drive, you’re not above the law.
