After notching up over 1,000,000 miles on his classic Volvo 740, this man from Missouri was gifted a surprise from the hands of the Swedish manufacturer, although nobody seemed impressed.

Not everyone gets a special mention from the manufacturers after hitting milestones.

In fact, the only letter most people get is a recall notice after 50,000 miles.

But this man from Missouri was gifted a glowing prize from Volvo after hitting the mil mark on his odometer.

Volvo 740 driver hits 1,000,000 miles and gets a surprise gift

Some people just love driving cars – although weirdly, not those who drive for a living.

We’ve seen some people hit wild numbers on the old odometers and even seen cars perform just as admirably, like this Honda, whose original engine hit the nine-digit milestone.

But after this classic 1991 Volvo 740 driver surpassed the one-million mark (winning a 30-year bet), Volvo was stunned by the achievement.

Speaking to Fox, Jim O’Shea revealed that he once bet his dad, a Ford dealer, that he would hit one million miles and prove that his choice of brand was warranted.

“When I brought this [Volvo] home, he didn’t talk to me for a while. I said to him, ‘I guarantee I will get a million miles in this car’,” he said – and so he did.

After the story went viral, the dealership that sold him the classic Volvo was so shocked that they gifted him a brand-new car.

But there’s a controversial catch…

The new car was only for a two-year lease, and he’d soon be back to his 1991 Volvo 740.

With that, fellow drivers have hit out, saying the car should be his for life.

“Are you kidding me? 2 years? Should have just gifted him the car. He is such a good advertisement for the company,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Unbelievable that they’re only letting him borrow a car for two years. And under the “Care by Volvo” lease terms, he’s limited to 1,250 miles per month. This is a joke.”

Still, the classic Volvo is clearly a magical car, and he might be in better shape driving the old reliable 740 for another million miles.

“I hope he keeps his old car. He’s gonna need it when the new one breaks down,” a third commenter joked.
