The mysterious Porsche spotted in Los Angeles International Airport may have been identified.

When first photographed earlier this week, the elusive car got the internet speculating on its model.

With Porsche themselves even saying they didn’t know what the car was, everybody was left scratching their heads.

The internet speculates on the mysterious LAX Porsche

The car itself appears to share some similarities with the 993 GT1 Strassenversion, as both are painted in Arctic Silver and Fern White.

However, the LAX car lacks the Strassenversion’s rear wing, opting for a ducktail spoiler and large air intakes behind the front doors.

It also had a large grille on the front and slim LED lights under the round headlights.

Car website Jalopnik reached out to Porsche to see if they could provide any information on the car’s make or purpose.

Porsche’s spokesperson said they weren’t aware of the car’s origin, although they agreed with Jalopnik’s assertion that the car ‘looked cool’.

A potential answer emerges

It appears that the internet’s questions have been answered…kind of.

Motor1 have noted that the LAX car bears some resemblance to the P39, the newest project from the RML Group.

The P39 was teased on RML’s instagram, where they noted the ‘Le Mans Hypercar-inspired Porsche 911’ was being released for the company’s 40th anniversary.

There are differences between the LAX Porsche and the P39, namely in their headlights.

However, the RML Group are working on a P40, which hasn’t been revealed yet.

The Porsche could be the unreleased P40.

Or there is also the possibility that the P39 design shared to Instagram wasn’t the final look.

As it currently stands, this is just further speculation of course.

It remains to be seen what the car’s true identity is.

Car mysteries are guaranteed to get petrolheads turning themselves into detectives – just take this McLaren parked outside a London hotel as a prime example of that.

Over in Beverley Hills, a Shelby GT500 got people talking after it was left parked on a street for weeks on end.
