A mystery Waymo rider in San Francisco has managed to clock up more than eight days inside the autonomous taxis this year.
The driverless taxi company was launched more than two decades ago, and initially had the much less snappy moniker ‘the Google Self-Driving Car Project’.
In recent years, the company has gone from strength to strength, launching in more cities across the US and is poised to land in Europe in the not-too-distant future.
However, while its popularity is clearly on the grow, we think you’d struggle to find a fan as big as this mystery rider in San Francisco.

Could this be Waymo’s biggest fan?
Much like Spotify and Apple Music, Waymo has launched a personlized ‘Year in Review’ type feature for its customers.
And one customer appeared to stand way out ahead when it came to using the robotaxi service, clocking up hundreds of rides and more than 11,500 minutes in 2025.

The rider, who wished to remain anonymous, was tracked down by The San Franscico Standard and shared their ‘year with Waymo’.
Throughout this year along, the ride logged 427 trips, spanning a total of 11,575 minutes, and covering a whopping 2,752 miles.
That’s equivalent to more than 192 hours, or about eight days, riding in Waymo EVs during 2025, and the year isn’t even over yet.
According to the company, this puts the rider in the ‘top 1 percent of riders’, and surely it will be pretty hard to beat.
Although this rider didn’t want to reveal themselves, The San Francisco Standard was able to find another keen Waymo rider.
Lee Edwards racked up 383 ride this year, and said that he find the service ‘safer and smoother than a human-driven’ equivalent.
Fair enough.
Since it was launched, Edwards has taken more than 1,000 trips, and was a little surprised that there was someone out there who had used the autonomous taxi service more than he had this year.
A fellow San Franciscan rider recently gave birth inside a Waymo
If managing to spend a total of eight days using Waymos in a single year isn’t impressive enough for you, then how about the woman who delivered her own baby inside one?

Yep, believe it or not, a woman in San Franscico recently gave birth during her ride.
The unnamed Waymo rider had been headed to the local hospital when the support team noticed some unusual activity inside the taxi and called 911.
However, before emergency services could arrive to check things out, the woman and her newborn had arrived safely at the hospital.
