The first foldable iPhone could be here sooner than you think.

Apple is continuing to work on a phone that can fold horizontally.

This would be in much the same mold as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

The new frontier for the iPhone

It was reported in February of this year by The Information that Apple was toying with two prototypes for a folding iPhone.

Fast forward a few months later, and it seems that the tech company has settled on a design.

With the device receiving an internal nickname – V68 – it seems like the idea is past the conceptual stage and is in development.

Reportedly, Apple is working to make the phone thinner and flatten the crease that appears when the device isn’t folded.

This new phone could be with us as early as 2026.

And that’s not all, as rumors are circulating that Apple is also working on a MacBook foldable which could be hitting stores that same year.

Other developments with Apple

In addition to having a folding screen, reports were circulating that this phone would have a ‘self-healing’ screen.

For context, this means the screen would be able to ‘heal’ itself from minor scratches and dents.

Given the state of some people’s phone screens, I think ‘minor’ should be the takeaway word here.

Still, it’d be pretty cool to see a phone heal itself, wouldn’t it?

The patent filed for a self-healing screen read: “Self-healing may occur in the layer of self-healing material without prompting (e.g., when the self-healing coating is dented, the material of the coating may fill the dent even without external intervention).

“Alternatively, the self-healing may be initiated or expedited by externally applied heat, light, electric current, or other type of external stimulus.”

The future is here, people.

Or it will be in two years.

Speaking of the future, in news that will make you feel old Apple now considers common iPhone and Airpods as ‘vintage’.

What’s more, people were amazed that this Old Toyota Land Cruiser can still run Apple CarPlay on its factory touchscreen.
