In one of the strangest motor-music crossovers, the new Justin Bieber song, Yukon, is named after a very specific GMC SUV.
Since Wilson Pickett slowed down his Mustang Sally in the ’60s, Don McLean drove his Chevy to the levee in the ’70s, and Prince’s Little Red Corvette headlined the ’80s, cars have featured in the defining songs of a generation.
The modern day is no different, with Kendrick Lamar parading the archetypal R&B-centric Buick on his blockbuster album last year.
Now, Justin Bieber has stepped up to the wheel to drive home a car reference in his new song, Yukon.

New Justin Bieber song Yukon is actually about a lesser-known GMC SUV
Pop star Justin Bieber has quite a way with cars. The famed singer has so many keys that he actually forgot he went out partying in a Ferrari once, leaving it parked up for three weeks.
In his garage, there are also keys to a wild Rolls-Royce named Uriel and a customized one-of-one Porsche, among many more.
But his new song highlights another beloved vehicle, and it’s not even his own.
While many Beliebers might have thought that Yukon is a reference to the Canadian province, since the pop icon is native to the country, the new Justin Bieber song is actually about the GMC SUV that his wife drove.

Back in 2018, when the power couple was rekindling their relationship, Hailey owned a GMC Yukon, and the lyrics suggest that they met up in the car many times during this period.
“In the city, uh, remember you used to drive a Yukon, I’d pick up whenever you called, In the parkin’ lot in Tucson, like, ‘Uh, are you with me?’,” the song lyrics read.
Yukon – the song – is more R&B than Bieber has ever gone, although it’s very much a love letter to his family, with their 11-month-old baby Jack Blues being the centre of attention in the music video.

R&B continues its automotive love affair
Bieber wouldn’t be the first to have a heavy relationship with a car and then use it in music lyrics or videos.
Some flashy car-loving celebrity songwriters have sported multi-million-dollar vehicles to promote their songs, just ask Travis Scott and his Bugatti Chiron Super Sport.
But there are also more iconic legends, like the Ice Ice Baby Mustang, which is still owned by Vanilla Ice to this day.
While the GMS SUV is winning no awards for being the most fashionable car on the planet, it does etch out its own page in the musical history books, thanks to Hailey and Justin Bieber rekindling their relationship in a Yukon.
