A new study has revealed a somewhat surprising factor that’s influencing US car buyers.
When it comes to splashing out on a new vehicle there are plenty of things to consider, including budget, reliability, and fuel economy.
But it seems that motorists thinking of buying cars are now considering something else, too – whether the car is an EV or not.
It turns out that more and more US drivers are wanting an all-electric as their next vehicle.

The popularity of electric cars among US car buyers
Electric vehicles have enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years, with more and more carmakers looking to boost their EV and hybrid offerings – last year, we even got the world’s first-ever EV muscle car.
And it seems as though that trend could be here to stay, at least according to a new study from Tata Consultancy Services.

The survey asked more than 1,300 people from across the world: ‘How likely are you to consider purchasing an electric vehicle as your next vehicle?’
Well over half – 64 percent – said it was either ‘likely’ or very ‘likely’.
Interestingly, this number shoots even higher if you only look at US respondents.
In America, 72 percent of those asked said they were likely or very likely to go for an EV for their next vehicle, compared to just 31 percent of motorists in Japan.
The survey revealed age played a part
Age also played a role, with younger US car buyers more likely to choose an EV as their next car.
Almost half – 42 percent – of people 18 to 25 said they were ‘very likely’ to buy an EV as their next car, while 33 percent said they were ‘likely’.

In the 26 to 35 category, 27 percent said they were ‘very likely’ and 52 percent said they were ‘likely’.
Down the other end, those aged 46 to 55 were the least likely to consider an EV purchase, with just 20 percent saying they were ‘very likely’ and 33 percent saying it was ‘likely’.
And it seems that when it comes to what’s available, most motorists are pretty happy with how things are.
Of all those asked, 55 percent said they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the current variety of electric vehicles on offer – so it seems the rise in popularity of EVs is here to stay.
