This American man discovered a ‘car graveyard’ in New York that contained more than 300 classics.

Phil from Geneva, New York, wrote to Barn Finds to share his discovery, which he claimed to visit twice a year.

The 76-year-old man is fond of the car graveyard, as it contains many vehicles from the ‘good old days’.

If the shots he took are anything to go by, the ‘good old days’ have held up pretty well.

A classic car graveyard in upstate New York

Compared with other car graveyards – like this one found in Sweden by The Bearded Explorer – the cars shared with Barn Finds have stood the test of time relatively well.

There are the usual signs of wear you’d expect from cars that had been left out to withstand the elements.

But the cars still have their character, hence why Phil can still feel sentimental when he sees them.

Writing to Barn Finds, he said: “It’s a wonderland. I am 76 years young and when I walk down through the fields and look at these vehicles, I am back in the 50’s.

“Each car means something. Each car means something. I look at a certain Ford or Chevy and I can remember who had one like it.”

Phil often admitted to the property’s owner that he’d love to buy the land off him.

He’d envisioned building a house in the middle of the car graveyard and getting to see them each time he went out the door.

The sad side of car graveyards

Although it’s nice to see so many classic cars in one place, their state can make one feel sad.

Many who read Phil’s story and saw his photos had this reaction.

One person commented: “When cars are this rusted, it’s a little sad. Maybe if they ever get sold some parts are still usable. I always content myself thinking of the stories each of these old cars could tell.”

Another shared these sentiments: “So sad, to me, when I see these old cars sitting, in the weather. Breaks my heart, [I would] like to take them all home.”

Car graveyards can vary in the degree of rot taking place within them.

In this UK graveyard, cars held up remarkably well, with a VW minivan and Ford Fiestas being spotted among the fauna.

However, the true story behind this French F1 car graveyard might surprise you.

It just goes to show that you can’t take for granted that cars will stick around – they need TLC as much as us humans do.
