One of the rarest Camaros ever built is a car with an incredible origin story.

The Chevy was stolen in New York in the spring of 1969 and has never been seen since.

To this day, the whereabouts of one of the rarest Camaros ever built is still unknown.

This is the story of Joe Oldham’s 1969 Baldwin-Motion Chevy Camaro.

The story of Joe Oldham and his Baldwin-Motion Camaro

Joe Oldham’s 1969 Chevy Camaro is one of the rarest Camaros ever built.

But you might be wondering – who on Earth is Joe Oldham?

Well, allow us to tell you – because the story is a fascinating one.

Oldham was an active street racer in Queen’s, New York.

He was also an automotive journalist, regularly writing columns for Hi-Performance Cars.

Oldham wanted to change his car because he was disappointed with his Pontiac GTO.

The street racer was adamant that his still-new ’68 400-cid 360hp High Output four-speed Pontiac GTO never performed right.

So Joe Oldham decided to turn to the Chevrolet Camaro for a solution.

August 1968 saw Oldham order a new 1969 Baldwin-Motion SS427 Chevy Camaro.

One of the rarest Camaros ever built tends to be a pretty striking piece.

Unfortunately for Joe Oldham, his Camaro was a little too striking.

Six months later, one of the rarest Camaros ever built was stolen.

Oldham went into his garage in Queens one morning – and his car was missing.

Ever since that day in 1969, the car has remained a mystery.

Some have speculated that the Camaro was simply stolen for its parts.

Fate of one of the rarest Camaros ever built remains mystery

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro remains one of the rarest Camaros ever built.

And this Camaro was a true one-of-a-kind beast of a muscle car.

It was a triple-black, Baldwin-Motion 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, and was an L78, 396-cid 375hp Super Sport.

The car also came with a Turbo 400, three-speed automatic transmission, as well as 4.10 gears.

Motion Performance then replaced the 396 cu-in engine with a 427/425 L72.

A fiberglass hood with an open Stinger scoop was also added.

It is sad to see that such an iconic car was stolen so soon after being delivered.

Thankfully, Oldham’s sons were able to build him almost an exact replica.
