This guy has been driving his Tesla Model X to Argentina, via Canada, and somehow only had his first serious car-related issue in Colombia.

That’s a pretty good result.

That means driving thousands and thousands of miles across different countries with no significant EV-specific issues.

We’d call it great PR for EVs, were it not for a tiny issue that became persistent after leaving the US.

It turns out you can drive from Canada to Colombia in a Tesla Model X, but with a catch

Oregon-based YouTuber Everyday Sandro – real name Sandro van Kuijck – is driving his customized Tesla Model X from Canada to Argentina.

There are a couple of reasons why he’s doing this.

Fun is the main reason, of course, but he also did it as an attempt to prove that you can do this sort of thing with an EV in the same way you could do it with a gas car.

His Model X, nicknamed Beluga, has been converted into a camper that he’s been using across the Americas – north to south – on his way to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, the southernmost tip of the continent.

His experience driving his EV from Oregon to South America has been roughly the same as it would’ve been in any other vehicle, with an exception.

Along the journey, Sandro has mentioned serious issues both with the police and criminals, but that would’ve happened even with a gas car.

Then he had to bypass the Darién Gap, which is another problem he’d have had in any other car.

The only EV-specific issue, of course, was charging.

Finding chargers in Canada and the US was easy, but it became increasingly difficult as he kept driving south.

And then his car broke down in a remote area of Colombia due to a jammed charging latch on the vehicle’s port.

That was in his latest video, so we can expect more updates in the near future.

This is proof that at least one aspect of motoring will never change

When the EV transition began, a lot of people feared automobiles would just become tools, something people use but don’t really enjoy.

Like a washing machine or a vacuum cleaner.

Fortunately, those people were wrong.

At least in part.

The fact that so many people are doing what this YouTuber is doing – random road trips from A to B for no reason other than pure fun – is proof that cars are still more than just transport.

And then we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this type of thing is more fun with a Model X or with a converted Lamborghini Urus, which is the vehicle – believe it or not – another YouTuber is using for an even crazier road trip.
