When this man found a Porsche 911 that had been sitting inside a shipping container for 16 years, he immediately had to check what condition it was in.
The car in question was a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2, and it’d been sitting inside a container in the UK for nearly two decades.
It’d been taken off the road after hitting a deer, and the owner had reached out to YouTube channel Porschemode to ask for help.
He said it was too expensive to save on his own, so he wanted some help – but what sort of condition would this Porsche be in? Only one way to find out.

What sort of condition was this Porsche 911 in after 16 years in a shipping container?
The plan was to undertake a bare-metal restoration, do a wide-body conversion, and carry out a full underbody rebuild.
In addition to that, they would be repainting the car in a dark oak green and adding some modern touches like LED headlights.

Plans are all well and good, but what was the reality of the car they had to work with?
Well, it wasn’t great, which is no surprise considering it’d spent 16 years in a shipping container.
We know that cars can suffer if left for long periods of time – just look at this Nova Kit car as proof of that.
Well, in much the same vein, this Porsche wasn’t in good shape.
The front wings were badly rusted, and the front bumper was damaged.

However, there were still parts of the car that were holding up relatively decently, given the circumstances – like the bonnet, the roof, and much of the shell.
Things weren’t looking much better on the inside, where worn seats and rusty gauge bezels immediately catch the eye.
An interior refresh was urgently needed.
It was time to get to work.

Could this car be restored to its former glory?
To start with, they removed the spark plugs from the rear engine bay to replace them.
The old oil was drained out, and an oil filter was added in anticipation of an attempted start.

The battery was hooked up, and the key was turned – the engine fired up, but it wasn’t a smooth-running one just yet.
But that’s what 16 years in storage gets you.
There was still work left to do, but things were off to a good start.
We love seeing restoration projects get off the ground, whether of a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle or a Fiat Ferrari.
