The prototype exoskeleton hypercar B2 Spirit seemed impressive at first, but when lined up against a Tesla Model 3 performance, reality struck faster than the green light.

What promised to be a drag strip demolition turned into a humbling physics lesson.

At the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the prototype’s gold-bladed wheels and wild aero weren’t enough to conquer one of the most popular electric cars in America.

While it still put up a spectacular show, it was clear that its bark outpaced its bite.

The prototype exoskeleton hypercar is better on paper

The race was captured by the Wheels YouTube channel.

On paper, the B2 Spirit should’ve been untouchable.

Built by Supercar System, the machine is a featherweight, mid-engine chassis that spits out more than 1,000hp.

It certainly looks menacing, looking more like a science experiment than an actual road car.

On paper, it’s better than its competitor, the Tesla Model 3 Performance.

It has dual motors and all-wheel drive, boasting more than 500hp and a 0-60mph time of around 2.9 seconds.

Tesla’s instant torque was too much

While the B2 Spirit has the Model 3 beat in terms of horsepower, the latter has a secret weapon: instant torque.

It was evident from the race itself: when it was time to go, the Model 3 shot off the line, while the prototype exoskeleton hypercar was much slower to move off.

The Tesla maintained a solid lead the entire way, although the B2 Spirit began picking up in the second half.

Unfortunately, it took too much time, as the Tesla crossed the line with a time of 11.03 seconds, at 124.79mph.

How did the B2 Spirit compare? It took around 13.11 seconds, at 121.40mph.

With a difference of more than two seconds, it’s the kind of defeat that makes you check if the handbrake was still on.

Of course, the B2 Spirit is still a prototype, meaning it has the potential to outdo its rivals in the future.

And the Tesla Model 3 is no slouch in the drag racing department either, having won races against many surprising rivals in the past.
