Every car enthusiast dreams of stumbling across a rare classic Porsche hidden away.

And that’s exactly what happened for one man in rural Wales.

Firefighter Matt from the UK had a chance encounter with a rare Porsche 912 that had been tucked away, untouched for many years.

And thanks to a newspaper found inside, he was able to piece together the story of the old Porsche.

A rare classic Porsche 912 discovered

The story began when Matt, firefighter and part-time car nut, came across an old lady with a Porsche 924 Carrera GT.

While admiring her car, the lady told him that the Porsche wasn’t for sale, but offered up her husband’s old Porsche instead.

Intrigued, Matt went to take a look at it, and was immediately mesmerized.

It was a single-owner 1968 Porsche 912, with a 5-speed manual and its original engine and gearbox.

On the driver’s seat, there was a newspaper, dated November 29, 1979.

The owner recalled that was the last day he drove the car, before it was relegated to the garage.

Unfortunately, when Matt enquired about purchasing the car, the husband declined, saying that he wanted to restore it with his son.

Two years passed, and the lady reached out once again: they were finally willing to let go of the Porsche, citing that their son had no interest in cars.

This was great news for Matt, who was finally able to get his hands on the rare classic Porsche.

That’s when he contacted Johnny from The Late Brake Show, who decided to see whether the old car would start.

The car was remarkably well-preserved for its age

Collaborating with Dai, who Johnny described as a Porsche ‘guru’, they got to work on cleaning the car.

While the exterior paint job has seen better days, and the car is baked in a layer of dust, it is still remarkably well-preserved.

On the inside, it looked even better, as there was only a minor bit of cosmetic damage after several decades.

After a thorough vacuuming session and hosing it down, the team rolled the car out into the daylight for the first time in nearly 40 years.

The transformation was stunning, and the car’s actual color was revealed in all its glory: burgundy red.

Getting this barn find to start, however, was going to be a much harder task.

It certainly wasn’t easy, given the car’s age.

In fact, by the time Johnny left the garage, it still wasn’t fixed.

But it wasn’t all bad news.

Dai continued working on it days after, and he finally got the engine running.

In fact, he even managed to take the car out for a spin, which was the first time the car saw the open road in 46 years.

While Dai acknowledges that a lot more needs to be done, he’s still pretty proud of the car.
