Renault has taken a cheeky swipe at Tesla with its new digital billboard that sends a bespoke message to UK Tesla drivers.

The billboard was placed at a popular EV charging spot in London to advertise the Renault Scenic E-Tech.

However, the message displayed on the board changes depending on what car you’re driving, with Tesla’s drivers being shown some individual messages.

Renault has taken aim at Tesla Model Y

Tesla remains one of the most popular EV brands in Europe and the rest of the world.

However, one of the most popular Tesla models – the Cybertruck – is not yet available in Europe – although the company did put on a wide-ranging tour there this summer

For now, folks living in the UK are only able to get their hands on the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and the Tesla Roadster.

Now, it seems that Renault is coming for the Model Y with its cheeky new ad campaign.

The billboard uses part of a review from Auto Express which reads, “New Renault Scenic embarrasses Tesla Model Y on price and range.”

But if a Tesla driver happens to pass by, a series of different messages flash up, including ‘This is awkward,’ ‘Elon-ger,’ and ‘You’re probably good at other things.’

Harsh.

To amplify the message to non-London drivers, it will also be shared across social media.

The campaign has been dubbed ‘innovative’

“The Scenic is a true game-changer and that is especially evident by the Auto Express article, which recognizes that it beats what has long been the benchmark in its sector in two key areas,” said Renault UK’s head of marketing Lawrence Hamilton.

“This campaign is a great way to spread this message far and wide, being just as innovative and forward-thinking as the Scenic E-Tech 100 percent electric.”

The Long Range Scenic E-Tech can cover over 40 miles more on a single charge than any variant of the Tesla Model Y and nearly 100 miles more than Tesla’s entry-level, rear-wheel-drive version, according to Renault.

While on the price front, the  Renault Scenic E-Tech standard model costs $47,854 (£37,495) and $52,321 (£40,995) for the Long Range and the Tesla Model Y starts from $57,425 (£44,990).

Regardless, that new ad is sure to ruffle a few feathers.
