The salaries for OpenAI employees have been revealed in a federal filing, and one role pays a whopping $685,000 per year.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years, there’s a good chance you’re aware of OpenAI.
The AI company, which is responsible for ChatGPT, was founded back in 2015 by a handful of people, including Sam Altman, who now serves as OpenAI’s CEO.
Today, the team has grown to 4,000 people, and there are some very attractive salaries on offer.

OpenAI has some seriously impressive salaries on offer
Earlier this year, Altman said that OpenAI would slow down its hiring to avoid the risk of having to make mass layoffs later down the line.
OpenAI employees are often graduates from the crème de la crème of universities, such as MIT and Stanford.

The company also makes use of hiring talent from overseas, which is why the salaries have come to light.
OpenAI doesn’t publicly disclose what it pays staff, but according to US law, employers who hire workers from other countries must post federal filings that show how much it pays across various roles.
These filings only contain details on base salary, and don’t take into account bonuses or stock options that can seriously bolster an employee’s pay packet.
Last year, for example, The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI gave an average of $1.5 million per employee in stock options.
Despite announcing plans to slow down its recruitment, a report from Business Insider claimed that OpenAI hired 60 employees from overseas in Q4 of last year – and some of them have landed very impressive salaries.
