Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower will soon be the world’s tallest skyscraper

It’s time to re-check your fact list because the building holding the world’s tallest skyscraper title will change, and Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower will hold it soon.

That’s right — the Burj Khalifa, in due time, won’t be the world’s tallest building anymore.

It had to happen at some point, and as soon as the construction of the Jeddah Tower ends, it will mark its place in history.

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa has held the title for almost 14 years now, but the country is replacing it with something even bigger.

And, to be clear, it will be nothing short of an engineering marvel.

The project’s development began a long time ago — in 2013, to be precise.

However, the contractors working on it paused the development due to unforeseen circumstances in 2018.

The delays didn’t stop there — the pandemic further halted development, which ultimately resumed in late 2023.

At that time, about three-fourths of the total construction had been done.

That means it’s close to the finish line now, and the Jeddah Tower will shortly become the world’s tallest skyscraper.

You don’t get to see the world’s tallest skyscraper if it’s not tall enough.

So, how far up in the sky does it reach?

Created by the Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture group, the upcoming tower will rise to a height of 3,281 feet in the sky.

To put that into perspective, that’s 0.62 miles, or 11 buildings the height of the Statue of Liberty stacked on top of each other.

Seems enormous now, doesn’t it?

The Jeddah Tower will stand in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

It’s the nation’s second-most populous city, right next to the Red Sea.

The location is brimming with architectural marvels and record-holding locations.

Saudi Arabia has been making strides recently, and they’re all mind-boggling.

Take The Line, for example—the $1.5 trillion NEOM mega-project is a desert project on the Red Sea’s coast.

Reportedly, it will stretch for 105 miles across the Saudi desert by 2030.

If you thought this was an ambitious project, there’s more.

The Saudi Crown Prince plans to build a skyscraper that is even taller than the Jeddah Tower.

It will likely be twice the size of the Burj Khalifa, but the project is still in its early stages.

Either way, the world’s tallest skyscraper will change in a few years.
