Scientists have been left baffled after a mysterious ‘alien helmet’ was spotted on the surface of Mars.
The object was spotted by NASA’s Perseverance rover through its Mastcam-Z.
A pointed peak with a pitted, nodular texture would make people think of armor worn here on Earth in a bygone era.
But does this prove that Martians are really living on the Red Planet?

The alien helmet on the surface of Mars has left scientists scratching their heads
When rovers are sent to Mars, the hope is always to find something interesting.
And on this account, the Perseverance rover didn’t disappoint.
The object at the center of media buzz is a pointed peak, which bears a striking resemblance to a helmet that would have been worn on Earth in ancient times.
However, before anyone gets too excited and declares it proof of alien life, these types of rocks can be found on Earth, too.

They’re often formed through volcanic processes, chemical weathering, and mineral precipitation.
A spokesperson for the Perseverance team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory gave some additional context to the rock.
“This hat-shaped rock is composed of spherules,” the spokesman told Space.com.
“This rock’s target name is Horneflya, and it’s distinctive less because of its hat shape – which looks to me to be generally consistent with the pyramid shape we often see in wind-eroded float blocks on the surface of Mars – and more because it’s made almost entirely of spherules.”
What are spherules?
As the name suggests, they’re small spheres – which appeared on the surface of the rock in this case.
This is the second time that the rover has come across a rock of this nature in recent months.

Scientists believe that spherules form on these rocks when groundwater passes through pores in sedimentary surfaces.
It might not seem like much, but every detail picked up by the Perseverance rover helps us understand more about our neighboring planet.
NASA is finding a lot of cool stuff on the Red Planet
There’s been a lot of eye-opening stuff that NASA has brought to our attention about Mars.
For example, the Perseverance rover transmitted back a panoramic shot of Mars that looked remarkably similar to Earth – leaving everyone confused.
There were also these heart-shaped patterns which almost look like they’ve been put there – they’re that perfect.
Mars is set to play a big part in our future.
If it were up to Elon Musk, we’d be on our way there tomorrow.
SpaceX has even been testing rockets designed specifically for Mars.
But reality is a bit more complicated than that.
Most scientists agree that sending human beings to Mars would be a bad idea due to cosmic radiation.
So while we could admire the heart shapes and the ‘alien helmets’, it’d otherwise be very impractical.
