Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal has expanded his love of cars to a new, unlikely model – a Smart car.
In a bid to test out the car’s true capabilities, the former NBA star tried to squeeze behind the wheel with the help of WWE’s John Cena.
Coming in at 7’1″, the star usually customizes his cars so he can fit inside safely, but the interior of the city car was uncharted territory.
And as you’d expect, after both men hopped inside the small cabin, the journey only had one outcome.

It was Shaquille O’Neal and John Cena vs a Smart car
The humble Smart car is universally known for being nifty.
It’s lightweight, compact, and basic, and is usually used by those who don’t require much room.
So, when Shaquille O’Neal tried to squeeze into a Smart car, it proved to be quite the fun fiasco, but not a match made in car heaven.

It was all part of Apple TV’s Carpool Karaoke series, with Shaq joined by former WWE wrestler and actor John Cena, who was set to be the lucky passenger beside him for the hotly anticipated journey.
Only, things didn’t quite go to plan.
“I think you can do it, just bend a little bit,” John Cena said as Shaq tried his best to get comfy in the driver’s seat.

But, as you can imagine, Shaq‘s 7-foot-plus height meant that there was no room behind the wheel for his body to actually fit, and his legs ended up on the dashboard.
After shifting and squeezing around, it became clear that neither of the stars would fit in the car at the same time or even at all.
“We need a bigger car,” they both said as they admitted defeat and returned to the side of the road.

After social media users saw the footage, it was clear the basketball star’s efforts had not gone unnoticed either.
“They could probably both pick that d**n thing up,” said one user.
“Idk how anyone fits in these types of cars,” commented another person.
“My claustrophobia was kicking in bad,” added a third.
Shaq’s fleet of cars is huge, varied, and customized
Luckily for Shaq, his choice of daily driver is worlds apart from a tiny Smart car.
In fact, he doesn’t just have one car either.
The not-so-secret gearhead has a collection of over 40 cars that he drives, depending on what he fancies that day.
From a Corvette to a Ram TRX, the cars have high value and have been carefully sourced for the basketball great to enjoy.
There is a slight issue, though; he can’t just drive them straight off the showroom floor.
Instead, he enlists the help of experts to customize every single one of them, including the seats and cabin, to ensure that his driving experience is as comfortable and safe as possible.
So, Shaq and a Smart car aren’t quite partners in crime.
But at least he had a blast while trying to squeeze in.
