Long-distance EV drivers rejoice! Solid-state EV batteries that promise nearly 1,000 miles of range and rapid recharging have started rolling out in China.
After years of hype, some of the country’s biggest automakers are now talking about real trial installations, not just lab demos.
The headline numbers are eye-watering, with claims of up to 1,500 km (932 miles) of range on China’s CLTC test cycle and energy density figures far above typical lithium-ion packs.
If these early rollouts go smoothly, the next wave of EVs could feel very different, especially for drivers who want long-distance freedom and shorter charging stops.

Solid-state EV batteries that promise nearly 1,000 miles of range
Changan Automobile, one of China’s major state-owned carmakers, says it plans to begin trial installations of its all-solid-state battery technology before the end of the third quarter of 2026.
That is a key step because trials in real vehicles are where big promises either shine or get humbled.
Changan has been showcasing its ‘Golden Bell’ all-solid-state battery and previously claimed it can hit an energy density of 400 Wh/kg.

For context, many current mainstream EVs sit well below that, so a jump like this is exactly why solid-state has been such a buzzword.
Changan also points to improvements on the safety side, saying it has used AI-driven diagnostics to raise safety levels significantly, and that the tech will be validated not only in EVs but also in robots.
Even if you do not take every number as a guaranteed everyday result, the direction is clear: China is moving solid-state from research mode into field testing at scale.

Long-distance life is steadily changing
Changan is not alone.
Dongfeng has also been talking up solid-state progress, including testing a prototype battery in extreme cold.
Its claims include around 350 Wh/kg energy density and a CLTC-rated range above 1,000 km (620 miles), which would still be massive for real-world usability.

What makes this extra exciting is how the industry frontrunners are starting to align, and multiple big names in China have indicated that broader production could arrive between 2027 and 2030, which is so close.
Meanwhile, the global race is on too, with premium brands testing solid-state tech on the road to prove it can survive real driving and real charging.
One thing’s for sure, big things are on the horizon in the world of solid-state EV batteries.
