The Batmobile is one of the most famous and iconic movie vehicles of all time, serving as the vehicle of choice for the Caped Crusader since all the way back in 1943.

One of the most beloved and revered versions is the one that appeared in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film – and for good reason.

‘I’m Batman’ – well, you could be…sort of

In the eyes of millions, the Batmobile might be the best movie vehicle to ever be created.

And now, a street-legal version of the legendary car is coming up for auction.

This street-legal 1989 Batmobile isn’t just some sort of kit car with a puny engine.

In fact, this all-black beast comes with some very impressive hardware under the paint.

Putsch Racing is the company responsible for this stunning road-legal replica.

The drivetrain for this Batmobile is actually borrowed from a Chevrolet Corvette.

It also uses a completely bespoke, custom steel-tube chassis, independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes.

Just in case the powerplant isn’t impressive enough, then just wait until you see what comes as extra.

Putsch Racing, a company known for going the extra mile, hasn’t exactly stopped with the power.

Additional features included a remotely operated canopy and digital displays befitting the Dark Knight.

Oh – and it also comes with two retractable 30. caliber Browning machine guns.

Don’t worry, though – they’re programmed to fire blanks instead of the real thing.

The car crosses the auction block on September 20th, and it is being listed by Mecum Auctions.

The1989 film of the Dark Knight sets the standard – as does the Batmobile

So, why is the 1989 Batmobile so beloved by fans of The Dark Knight?

Well, it is for a very good reason – and it is all because of the film it stars in.

Batman (1989) is the film that was directed by Tim Burton, starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

The film is set early on in the war between Batman and Gotham’s greatest villain, The Joker.

Burton’s film received critical acclaim when it was released, with the performances being particularly praised.

To this day, Michael Keaton is still considered one of the best Batman performances there has ever been.

Likewise, Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of The Joker remains a legendary performance in its own right.

Most importantly, Tim Burton’s film offered a completely new take on the Batmobile.

It offered a much more striking and dramatic interpretation of the Caped Crusader’s vehicle of choice.

Could you ever be tempted into owning the street-legal replica of The Dark Knight?
