The Sultan of Brunei has a 7,000-large car collection – 600 of which are Rolls-Royces.
It’s hard to stand out in a car collection as extensive as this, but the Rolls-Royce manage to do it.
It doesn’t hurt that many of them are personally commissioned one-offs.
So what is it about these cars that makes the ruler such a fan?

Looking at the Rolls-Royce in the $5 billion collection of the Sultan of Brunei
There are 7,000 cars in the Sultan’s collection, which is valued at over $5 billion.
He has almost as many cars as he does titles – Head of State, Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Finance, in case you were wondering.
But chief among his cars is 600 Rolls-Royces, 450 Ferraris, and 380 Bentleys.

According to court documents, he’s spent a staggering $475 million at Rolls-Royce.
This will have been more than enough to keep the company going when its sales figures took a dip.
In fact, it’s estimated that around half of all Rolls-Royces and Bentleys sold between the early and mid-1990s went to the Sultan and his family.
Among his Rolls-Royces are limousines like the Royale, Majestic, and Cloudesque.

Not that these cars are being shown out in public – their existence is only known because of paparazzi leaks.
More commonly seen is the Silver Spur II, which was used on the Sultan’s wedding day.
Not that there was much silver about this Spur, as it was decked out in gold.

There’s a lot of secrecy surrounding this royal collection
Getting a full look at the royal collection would be like getting blood from a stone.
We’ve only seen as much as we have thanks to leaks from photographers – that’s how we found out about these 28 secret cars that were never meant to be seen.

This secretive collection has many distinctions, but is rarely seen outside of the mysterious ‘Black Room’.
That’s not to say that these cars aren’t well looked after.
It’s very much the opposite, as demonstrated with the $25 million McLaren F1, for example, which was refurbished by the Sultan of Brunei and the manufacturers to be a flawless, pearly-white supercar.
